The problem

Why most gym memberships quietly stop working

You paid for the big-box membership. You did some machines, some cardio, maybe a class you couldn't hear the coach in. Nothing hurt exactly, but nothing changed either — so you stopped going and told yourself you'd restart in January.

The problem was never discipline. It was that nobody wrote you a plan for the body you have right now, and nobody watched you move. A room with 200 people in it can't do that. A group of eight can.

Why the old way failed you

  • Random workouts: hard enough to make you sore, unstructured enough that nothing progresses.
  • Stretching that never stuck, because passive stretching doesn't build control — loaded end-range work does.
  • Programs built for the coach's fitness level instead of yours, so you either got hurt or got bored.
  • Nutrition advice with no relationship behind it, handed to you in a PDF.

The outcome

What a strong, mobile body actually buys you

Getting the suitcase into the overhead bin without a second attempt. Getting off the floor after playing with your kids. Hiking the greenbelt on a Saturday and not paying for it Sunday. That's the point of training here — the barbell and the kettlebell are just the tools.

01

Strength

Build muscle and lose body fat with progressive strength work — bodyweight, kettlebells, dumbbells, and barbells when they're appropriate for you.

02

Mobility

Functional Range Conditioning for joint health and usable range, so strength gains don't come with stiff hips and cranky shoulders.

03

Conditioning

Heart and lung work — including outdoor sessions — programmed so it supports your lifting instead of wrecking it.

The method

How Chalk Training works

Screen how you move, scale the session to that, coach every rep in a group of 8 or fewer, then adjust as your strength and range improve.

  1. 01

You start with a coach, not a class

Before you join a session we talk through your training history, injuries, and what you want out of the next six months, then screen how your hips, shoulders and spine move.

  2. 02

Your first session is scaled on the spot

Everyone in the room trains the same session, loaded and adjusted per person. A member in week one and a member in year five work side by side — that's normal here, not a compromise.

  3. 03

Strength and joint work in the same hour

We pair strength training with Functional Range Conditioning, so you get stronger in ranges you can actually control.

  4. 04

Training, nutrition, accountability — all three

Our program is all-inclusive because two out of three doesn't hold. Coach Crystal is a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, so nutrition is a conversation, not a handout.

The offer

10 Days for $10 — 10-Year Anniversary Trial

Good fit

Who Chalk Training is for

  • Adults in Westlake, Rollingwood, Barton Creek, Bee Cave and Central Austin who want to be coached, not just counted
  • Beginners who haven't trained in years and don't want to be the worst person in a big class
  • Experienced lifters who want mobility work and a coach's eyes on their positions
  • People carrying old injuries who need loading scaled honestly
  • Anyone who wants training, nutrition and accountability in one place

Not a fit

Who it's honestly not for

  • Anyone looking for an unstaffed 24-hour gym floor to use alone
  • People who want a physique in three weeks — the first honest result here is usually strength and range, not the scale
  • Anyone who wants to skip the intro and jump straight into a heavy session unscreened
  • Anyone looking for medical treatment or physical therapy — we coach, and we'll refer out when that's what you need

Crystal Heinatz

Owner & Head Coach

Nearly two decades in the fitness industry, with a competitive background that includes the 2009 and 2010 CrossFit Games. Dual B.S. degrees from Minot State University (Corporate Fitness/Exercise Science; Physical Education, 2007). Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (NTA, 2012), Functional Range Conditioning Mobility Specialist (2020) and Kinstretch certified (2021), CrossFit Level 1 and Level 2. Recovering from an autoimmune disease early in her career is what pushed her into nutrition — it's why nutrition is part of the program here and not an upsell.

Richie Griffin

Lead Coach & Personal Trainer

Left a marketing career in 2010 to coach full time, starting with bootcamps and personal training before finding his stride coaching in a CrossFit gym. Joined Chalk in 2021 and has been a fixture of the community since.

Alisia Shannon

Lead Coach & Personal Trainer

Started at Chalk as a member and grew into coaching through her own training. She meets people exactly where they are, which is why she's often the coach we put with a nervous first-timer.

One of our favorite things about Chalk: a single class can include members who've trained with us four or more years right alongside someone in their very first week — different ages, backgrounds, goals and training histories, all in the same room.

Questions

Chalk Training FAQ

Ten days of coached training for $10, groups of eight or fewer, scaled to any starting point, no contract, at 515 S Capital of Texas Hwy in Westlake.

What exactly do I get for the 10 Days for $10 anniversary trial?

Ten consecutive days of unlimited small group and outdoor sessions at Chalk Training, a coach-led intro before your first session, a movement and joint-range screen, and a nutrition and accountability conversation. You pay the $10 at the studio, not through this form. This is a limited 10-year anniversary offer.

Why is the trial only $10?

We're celebrating 10 years of Chalk Training — a decade of coaching strength, mobility and conditioning in Westlake. This anniversary trial is our way of welcoming new people into the community and saying thank you to Austin for ten years.

I haven't worked out in years. Am I too out of shape to start?

No. Every session is built for all levels and scaled per person — bodyweight, kettlebells and dumbbells first, barbells and more technical lifts only when they're appropriate for you. Your intro exists specifically so your first session matches the body you have today.

How many people are in a session?

Small group sessions are up to eight people to one coach. Semi-private is up to four. Private training is one to one. If a session is full, your coach will help you find another time.

Is Chalk Training CrossFit?

No. Our coaches have deep CrossFit backgrounds, but the program here is strength training, Functional Range Conditioning for mobility, and conditioning — programmed for joint health and long-term progress rather than competition scoring.

Where is the studio and where do I park?

Chalk Training is at 515 S Capital of Texas Hwy, Suite 120, Austin, Texas 78746, in the heart of Westlake. There is parking on site at the suite entrance.

What happens when the ten days are over? Am I locked into anything?

Nothing renews automatically. There's no contract on the trial. On day ten your coach gives you an honest recommendation — small group, semi-private, private, or that we're not the right fit — and you decide.

What should I bring to my first session?

Training shoes, water, and clothes you can squat and reach overhead in. That's it — chalk, kettlebells and everything else is here.

Do you help with nutrition, or is it training only?

Nutrition is part of the program. Coach Crystal is a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, so nutrition is coached in conversation alongside your training and accountability rather than sold as a separate plan.

Ten days. Ten dollars. One decision at the end.

Come see what coached strength and mobility training feels like in a room of eight people. If it's not for you, we'll tell you ourselves on day ten.
